Book Covers
Presented on this webpage is a selection of digital paintings and photographic images as examples of Book Covers. The job of Book Cover is to create a narrative image that tells a story of the book. A book cover needs to tell (or indeed sell) all the thousands of words inside the book. Graphically showing what the reader should expect withing the pages of the book. The cover should also conveys an emotion or mood, regarding the book’s subject.
Whether it’s a photographic image or a digital painting illustration, imagery as a book cover is the starting point and will affect all future decisions—such as text positioning.
As one of the biggest selling points, the Book Cover is an important tool in marketing your book. Having a bold, graphic book cover can improve the salability of your book. Since your cover will be displayed as thumbnails in online stores, the clarity and impact of the cover image are crucial.
Technical Information
For all Book Covers, I used a Nikon camera and lenses to create all the digital paintings and photographs displayed on the book cover webpage. I often employ composite images to create the final image. Before digital, I took original 35mm slides, which I converted to digital and edited in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. The reference photographs can also become the base layer of a digital painting.
All the book covers displayed on this webpage are copyrighted to P.B.S. Studios. They are available for sale for personal use or publication.
